If you’re reading this, chances are you have a vintage or higher end turntable and would like to listen to it somewhere that doesn’t require it to be near a stereo receiver. Don’t sweat it, you have affordable options to learn how to connect a turntable to speakers.
For Turntables that Don’t Have Built-in Preamps
An easy solution requires two parts and about $35. All you need is a small preamp and RCA to 1/8” jack cable. After that, you’ll be able to play your turntable on any small speaker that has an aux in, or RCA. I’ve had the device below for 5 years, it’s a solid budget preamp that will let you continue to enjoy that vinyl in your own modern way.
Stereo 1/8 Inch to Dual RCA Adapter Cable
Not all computers have aux-in audio
If you want to hook this up to a laptop or desktop, make sure it has a 1/8″ headphone jack input. If not, you might want to try the below, or similar 1/8″ > USB jack:
Plug and play USB Stereo Adapter for Windows / Mac
Going Bluetooth for Your Turntable
I haven’t tried this (yet), but if you want to go to bluetooth there are transmitter options like the below:
TaoTronics Bluetooth 4.0 Transmitter
To transmit to a small non-bluetooth speaker, you should be able to use this small receiver device.
TaoTronics Portable Wireless Audio Adapter
My Goal:
Go bluetooth. Have the turntable in one room and cast it to another room to enjoy through our all purpose, beloved home speaker of choice, the Tivoli Audio Model One:
